5 out of 5 stars Where the rubber meets the road!   October 19, 2007

For more than 30 years, I've searched high and low for the perfect wiper blade. Being a little tiny bit obsessive about my car, one of the things I can NOT tolerate is a chattering, noisy, smeary, streaky wiper blade. Driving in the rain is hard enough without feeling like you're trying to look through a wax-paper windshield.

In the past, I'd put new wiper blades on my car two or three times a year and sometimes more, just to make sure I never had to deal with wiper smear or worse, wiper chatter. That sound is like fingernails on a blackboard to me!!

I'd also clean the rubber edge several times between blade changes, to keep the leading edge clean and free from debris and gooey tree gunk and junk. Due to my desire to keep the finest quality blades on the car, I'd only buy authentic Toyota blades for my 2003 Camry and then one day...

An associate at the local Toyota dealer talked me into buying the rubber inserts for the blades, rather than the whole blade assembly. For 20 minutes, I waited and watched as she fiddled around trying desperately to get the inserts into the arm assembly. Two days later (and 10 minutes of use later), while driving in a light rain storm, the whole thing came apart in pieces, scratching my windshield in the process. It was a Sunday afternoon (dealer was closed), so I drove directly to the auto parts store and told them I wanted the most expensive wiper-blade they sold. They took me to the Bosch Icon and said, "these are the best, but they're pricey."

I couldn't be more pleased with the quality and performance of this product. The two blades I bought for Cammie cost less than $50 which isn't THAT much contrasted against the frustration of not being able to see clearly through the windshield when it rains.

April 2008 UPDATE: I am on my second pair of Bosch Icons and I'm saddened to say that I am no longer "raving" about these things. While they're just swell for the first 60 days, they deteriorate quickly after that and become streaky and smeary. When I was buying wiper blades for my daughter's car, I asked the auto parts guy about the Bosch Icon. He replied, "I'm not that impressed with them either. They don't last long."

5 out of 5 stars A great product   January 22, 2007

These came standard on my 2005 VW Jetta - I had never seen these before and thought they funny looking. I'm now sold. They do a great job summer and winter (no need to switch to winter blades here in New England) and last a long time. More expensive, but worth it in my opinion. They also installed easily on my other car which had conventional blades.

5 out of 5 stars Def recommended!   November 30, 2007

Today my mom came in and told me her passenger wiper blade fell out [it turned out to be ripped out from use] and to go put it back.. I saw thm and decided to get a replacement blade inserts and while checking online I remembered everyone "oooo and aaaaah 'ing" about the Bosch Icons and decided to check them out and read the reviews/ Pretty much every review was 5 stared [as is mine] and raved about the so called 'performance' of the item. but after looking at the price.. I started having doubts.. I mean spending close to 50 is no chump change, especially for a broke college student. -_-

Finally I decided to go against my siblings advise to get $5 inserts, and bit the bullet. and OH-EM-JE, very easy to put in place and the way they work.. amazing. Quiet, no streaks, no sound, simply put, the best wiper blades EVER.

DEF worth every penny, but try to buy online since you might get a better deal.

5 out of 5 stars Finally - a real windshield wiper!   February 8, 2008
Jack Anthony (Nevada, IA)
I have taken advantage of several customer reviews on Amazon and believe in them highly. They have helped me make many good purchases and saved me from making many poor ones.
I have never felt compelled to write a review - until now!

These windshield wipers rock!!

I have long cursed cheap streaky wipers and wondered why we couldn't make a better wiper if we can put men and women on the international space station. So when I saw an ad on the tele for Rain X wipers I thought perhaps we had arrived as a species and immediately checked the feedback out on Amazon. Sure enough, there were warnings under Rain X wipers, but recommendations for the Bosch Icon. After reading the Bosch comments, I was convinced to give them a try.

Interestingly the passenger side wiper arrived on my door step first, so I could do a true side by side comparison. I couldn't believe the difference. As others have commented, they installed in a snap, and the difference in the two sides was truly remarkable. So when the driver's side arrived the following day, you can imagine my eagerness to try them together.

Again, I was shocked at their effectiveness. No streaking, no wobble and no chatter. After taking them for a test drive, I now have a new problem - I'm running low on windshield cleaning fluid. I feel like I can see again. In the midwest, the last thing you want to deal with in lousy weather is wipers that don't wipe.

Seriously - do yourself and your family a big favor and purchase a set for every vehicle. The added safety more than provides the value in return.

Careful when measuring your previous blades. Be sure to measure the metal part rather than the rubber part. My metal brackets tended to run about a half inch longer on my old standard blades. Don't assume both sides are equal as well. I was surprised to discover that on a 2005 Camry, the driver's side (A blade) is 24 inches and the passenger side (B blade) is 19 inches.

Rock on Bosch!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best Wiper I've Tried   March 24, 2008
A. Swanson (NorCal)
I'm one of those anal guys who researches most of his purchases, even on small things like wiper blades. Unfortunately, I did not do that when I first replaced the blades on my Nissan Xterra. I replaced the stock ones with something the guys at Napa Auto recommended. During the first winter with them, they behaved as most wiper blades do - poorly. They chattered and squealed when the window wasn't drenched and left streaks or skipped when it was pouring. Like I said, they behaved like most blades. All this despite the fact that I keep the window - and blades - very clean.

So this year, after another couple of months of sub-par performance and the scares that sometimes accompany a wet windshield, I decided to look for the the 'best blade'. I read reviews and asked questions on forums and this blade kept coming up. Now that I have it, I can see why.

No noise - no matter how wet or dry the window. No skipping or sliding allowing water to remain behind. This thing, while still just a windshield wiper, is truly amazing. Yep, costs twice as much. No idea how it will hold up over the long haul, but I tend to replace blades once a year anyhow. Seriously, if you value the ability to see out of your windshield during torrential downpours or just drizzle - these things are the premier product.
