Product Description
ThinkPad X Series notebooks put the ultra in ultraportable. They're designed for on-the-go professionals who need maximum portability and light weight. And there's no trade-off in usability or durability. The latest breakthrough - the amazing ThinkPad X300 - combines an ultra-thin DVD burner, Solid State storage and next-generation ThinkPad "roll cage" technology to create the thinnest, lightest full-featured notebook in the 13" widescreen class. And it's the "greenest" ThinkPad ever.

5 out of 5 stars great laptop   March 1, 2009

I have own it for more than half a year now. It is a great laptop. The most enjoyable feature is its light weight. I travel a lot and it saves my back. What's amazing is that in this slick baby it comes with 3 USB ports, a ultra-compact DVD that helps me enjoy movies on the go, a built-in cam and mic, and much more. The sound of the speakers, which are hide within the case, is great! Much better than many other laptop speakers. This is very convenient when you are in a hotel room and have no access to good surround sound systems, yet would like to enjoy a little piece of movie without plug you ears with uncomfortable earphones.

The only little disappointment is its battery life. I bought one that claimed to last 6 hours, but at most it last about 4 hours. After half a year, it now lasts about 2 hours. I wish this can be improved.

Overall, I love it. I will recommend this one to my friends if the portability is their major concern in choosing a laptop.

4 out of 5 stars One of the best laptops I've had. Surprised about other reviews   January 1, 2009

I love how sturdy and lightweight the X300 is. Like most Thinkpads, it looks deceivingly simple (plain black), this is great because it doesn't attract too much attention when traveling in not so safe areas.

One thing that often gets ignored, but it ends up being very important, is the dimensions and weight of the AC adapter; the one that comes with the X300 is very small.

I got mine with 4GB RAM which can only be fully used with a 64-bit OS. I installed Ubuntu and I was quite pleased that most things worked "out of box", even the built-in CDMA modem and webcam!

The solid state drive is great but I am not sure it's worth the high price. It's a small drive, which is fine for most people, but the newer model (x301) has a much bigger disk.

The WLAN is fantastic. I got the Verizon service and its coverage is very good.

I used to have a Sony Vaio before this one and I really appreciate the built-in mic. Also, the Vaio was very fragile, this one is much tougher.

Lenovo's customer service is good, much better than Sony, Acer or HP.

Battery life is average, I wish it was better. I also wish it had a SD card reader. I don't give it 5 stars just because of that.

2 out of 5 stars Great little laptop, but expensive!!!   June 28, 2009

I've had this neat little laptop for the past 8 months. It has served me well, however as many has mentioned, the thinkvantage software would cause the computer to freeze. So the finger print reader is non-existent because you need the tainkvantage software to run it. I called customer service in Atlanta and was put on hold for 15 minutes. After coming back on, the customer service told me tell would give me a return call when they found out what was wrong with the thinkvantage software. I never received a call.

I really like the form factor of this laptop. It's easy to carry around and I also got the extra 3 cell cd-rom battery and put it together with the 6 cell battery. I get about 6-7 hours of usuage from a single charge up. Overall this laptop is really nice, but pricey. Just don't count on the fingerprint reader to work. Everything else worked like a charm for me.
